Services Provided

The City of Alma provides trash and curbside recycling to the citizens of Alma.

A $15.18 fee for the service will be added to each monthly water statement. Senior citizens (age 65 and older) may request a 10% discount by stopping by the Alma Water Department office at 811 Fayetteville Avenue, or by calling 479.632.2254. This service is contracted through CARDS Waste Removal.

Trash Handling

Please contact CARDS Waste Removal at (877) 592-2837 to request delivery of a trash receptacle. All trash must be contained within the receptacle. A second receptacle may be requested. Trash Receptacle should be placed at the curb no later than 7:00am on your collection day each week. See the map on reverse side to determine your trash collection day. Please help prevent the attraction of animals and scattering of trash through your neighborhood by placing your trash at the curb on the morning of collection. If your trash is not picked up on your service day, please call CARDS Waste Removal as soon as possible at (877) 592-2837. Physically challenged customers will be provided service at a reasonable location on their property at no additional cost.

Recycling

Your service includes optional curbside recycling. If your recyclables are not collected on the scheduled trash pickup day, please contact CARDS Waste Removal at (877) 592-2837 to inform them of the missed service.

It is important to rinse food residue from containers before placing in your recycling bins. Doing so will keep critters away and prevent odor. Please read through the list of all the items we accept and do not accept. All recyclables should be placed in a recycle bin.  Cardboard boxes may be broken down, stacked and tied and placed adjacent to the recycle bin for pickup.  Do not place recyclables in a plastic bag, it will not be picked up. Recycle bins may be obtained by contacting CARDS Waste Removal at (877) 592-2837. A deposit of $15.00 is required for each requested bin.

Materials Accepted:
  • Paper
Junk mail, newspapers, magazines, office paper and books
  • Cardboard
Corrugated (the standard brown box), please break down.  We also take your chipboard cardboard (shoe & cereal box…etc)
  • Aluminum, Tin and Steel Cans
  • Plastics #1 and #2
Most drink containers, soap bottles, bleach, condiments are #1 or #2 plastics.  A good rule of thumb is that if the opening or neck is smaller than the rest of the container, the plastic is #1 or #2.

Materials NOT Accepted:
  • Styrofoam containers, packaging peanuts or egg cartons
  • Pizza boxes or anything that contains food residue
  • Glass of any kind
  • Papers such as tissue, hygiene products and paper liquid cartons (broth and juice containers)
  • Plastic bags
  • Metal hangers

Please Note:
  • Although there are some facilities around the nation who recycle more, our district is not equipped to recycle everything.
  • We currently do not accept plastic grocery, bread and freezer bags.  Please take bags to the plastic recycling stations at Walmart, Harps or similar grocery stores.

Bulky Items

Bulky items such as furniture and appliances may be scheduled for pickup for a nominal fee by calling CARDS Waste Removal at (877) 592-2837.  You must call CARDS for pricing and to schedule pick-up of these items one week in advance to allow for route planning.

Additionally, two citywide cleanup days will be hosted each year, in which customers will be able to dispose of bulky items in large roll-off style dumpsters at a public location at no additional cost. Details about these events will be provided at a later date. Please note that refrigerant items will not be accepted, even if the refrigerant (Freon) is removed.
